Julie Cheng
designer's statement
Julie Cheng is currently a senior MICA student majoring in Fiber with concentration in Experimental Fashion. Born and raised in Queens, New York, she decided to study in Maryland to experience life on her own through various jobs. Besides school, she loves to travel and learn about different cultures. As a result, her artwork is derived from these different experiences.
Julie says, "My artworks varies in a wide range of forms and designs. At the MICA's Fall 2008 Experimental Fashion Show, I presented a dress collection made exclusively of magazine pages, which reflected upon fashion accumulation, bombardment and a green solution to old fashion magazine. Coming from a strong drawing background, I also enjoy designing my own fabric using various dying and weaving techniques."
She is honored to work with and participate at this year's Steps to the Cure.
