designer's statement
Katie Waterworth was born and raised in Silver Spring , Maryland. Growing
up, Katie spent hours in front of the TV drawing costumes from various movies and TV
shows and almost failed a few math classes in favor of making her own dress designs.
Luckily she discovered The Maryland Institute, College of Art where she could pursue
her dreams (minus the math).
In December 2009 she graduated from MICA with a degree
in Fiber and a concentration in experimental fashion. Since graduation she has had a
number of odd jobs from wedding gown alterations to crafts overhire at the Shakespeare
theatre in preparation for her goal of working in theatrical costume.
She makes her living as a professional dog groomer. In her free time, Katie enjoys
shopping, the beach, sparkly things, and spending time with her boyfriend and friends.
