designer's statement
Brazilian-born, Miami-raised, and L.A.-based, Fernanda Carneiro, strives to create pieces that are at once elegant, timeless, innovative, and versatile. Growing up in such diverse places exposed her to a wide variety of cultural and stylistic influences, translated in her inclination towards free-spirited designs and rich colorways.
Since its inception in 2008, the Fernanda Carneiro line has garnered attention from press including WWD, The Los Angeles Times, Lucky, Latino Future, and Daily Candy as well as celebrities including Julie Benz, Roselyn Sanchez, and Melonie Diaz. In October 2009, Fernanda was awarded Los Angeles's "Fashion Angel Emerging Designer Award," honoring the city's most promising talent in fashion design.
In February 2010, she was selected as one of nine finalists in the Oscars' Designer Challenge and showed a sleek and elegant gown design on the runway at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Most recently, Fernanda showcased her Fall 2010 collection at Gen Art's final Fresh Faces runway show in Miami. Building upon a foundation of meticulous construction, refined fabric selection and ingenious design conception, the Fernanda Carneiro brand has come to embody the modern woman.
