Kate Weintraub
designer's statement
Katharine Weintraub is an Experimental Fashion student at the Maryland Institute College of Art '12. For years she has honed her craft and focused on classic tailoring and draping, taking classes at New york University and Parson's Paris. She has begun to explore the industry, interning with Michael Kors and Burberry. She believes that truly inspiring garments rest on the thin line between art and design. She favors concept heavy work that is built on a foundation of technical proficiency. Her work focuses on the manipulation of the body and the manners in which it can be flattered, exaggerated and restricted. In recent years she has explored changing the shapes of garments and in turn changing the shapes of the human body. What attracts her to garment design and construction is the manner in which clothing cannot only change a person’s physical appearance but his or her entire disposition.
