designer's statement

Ashley Charit was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland to attend Maryland Institute, College of Art in 2004, and received her BFA in Fibers in 2008. While attending MICA, she became interested in digital and woven textiles, and fashion. Her work is inspired by personal experiences and the geometric and organic structures of her surroundings. After graduation, she returned to Philadelphia, purchased a loom, and is undergoing the process of creating a new collection of clothing and accessories, which will be available through Etsy, a site for crafters and artists. Ashley has become more involved in the craft movement in Philadelphia, and is working on collaborative projects with other Etsy members to publicize hand-made local goods. She is also currently pursuing a career in the fashion and textile industry, and hopes to continue using her talents to benefit others.
