Nigerian Born Fashion Designer is Bridging the Gap, One Wardrobe at a Time
L~Shandi Designs was established in 2005 by Lara Akinsanya, a Nigerian-Born American, who was inspired to provide ready-to-wear garments that are made with fabrics from Africa appealing to women from all nationalities.

What makes the L~Shandi designs different is the innovative use of the typical traditional African fabrics with Western cuts to provide a unique, sophisticated and timeless glamorous look. The result are designs that provide an avenue for women to embrace a part of the African culture by mixing and matching their fashion style with L~Shandi Designs.

The fabrics used in L~Shandi designs, such as African Lace, are made with embroidery over a particular base fabric like cotton, voile or silk. The embroidered designs come in different shapes and colors so they are easily customizable. The edges of African laces are very important parts of the fabric design and are always strategically placed in L~Shandi designs. What looks like holes in the fabrics are hand cut eyelets that are part of the fabric design; leaving room for an additional underlay that can be customized.

L-Shandi brings African lace into ready-to-wear fashion forefront. Pair any of the L~Shandi pieces with jeans for a casual outing or style them dressy for a formal occasion. 

L~Shandi Designs are currently being sold in select boutiques nationwide and are available for both wholesale and retail clients. The name L~Shandi is a short for “Lepa Shandi” which is a Nigerian slang for a lady whose clothing or attire fit flawlessly.
