designer's statement

My name is Erin McAleavy. I am a Fibers major in my junior year at the Maryland Institute College of Art. I am interested in the ways in which survivors like Judy Radebaugh are prone to view the world around them after having faced the prospect of no longer existing in it; like a tunnel that expands to encompass everything in first a negative light, with the diagnosis; and then a positive one with the hope of survival. I want those viewing the garment to to be put in a position to see that way: to be faced with bleak prospects initially, but to come away with something surprising and beautiful.
