When I discovered a lump in my breast in September of 2000, I had no choice but to make time for this unwelcome intrusion into my already busy life! I consulted breast surgeon Dr. Lauren Schnaper at GBMC and that began a medical journey for the next year. Oncologist Dr. Gary Cohen made sure I had the latest treatment. Nurse Barbara Raksin took me under her wing and made life easier by arranging appointments, explaining options and scheduling surgeries. A good thing - since my reaction to the cancer was to be in denial. I just did what I had to do to get better, and even worked though it all - including the chemotherapy! With the support of my family and help of all the GBMC professionals, eight years later, I am walking this runway!
