Laura Cadden

I'm Laura Cadden and I've just turned 42 with the knowledge that I have breast cancer.

I was diagnosed on Sept. 2 this year. My story is only beginning, but how my life has changed in just the past month!

I've learned so many things already... about humbleness, kindness, weakness, empathy, fear, and patience. I know that's just the tip of the iceberg... that this experience will continue to teach me about myself -- and more importantly, how to be a better person and appreciate others more fully.

The most amazing thing of all to me is the friendliness and concern of the medical staff I've met at GBMC. I've always known I was incredibly blessed to live in the Baltimore area with all of its medical talent, but to be treated with such graciousness has kept me sane -- quite literally. I hardly ever cry these days -- well, not too much -- and never at the hospital. I'm more likely laughing!

So here's to the wonderful personnel at our area hospitals -- and to the generous donors to these institutions! -- that make the lives of women with breast cancer bearable! THANK YOU!
