I never expected that I would develop breast cancer. As a Breast Imager, I saw mammographic signs of breast cancer almost daily, but since I had few risk factors and normal mammograms, I felt safe. In 2008, my gynecologist felt a left breast lump which, like 20% of breast cancers, was not visible on the mammogram. My Stage 1 invasive ductal cancer was treated with lumpectomy and radiation therapy. I did not require chemotherapy and I’m tolerating the Aromatase Inhibitor very well. Be diligent in performing breast self examination, obtaining your yearly mammogram and your annual clinical breast examination. No one is safe!
