Katie Boone

I was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated from Garrison Forest School and then went to college in New England. I was fortunate enough to follow one of my passions which is sailing and obtained a job as a crew member on the Pride of Baltimore. I met my husband shortly after and we shared many things in common. Our parents where friends and our love of sailing. We worked together for many years in the marine industry and in 1995 moved to Newport, RI. That is where my passion for horses was rekindled. I rode and showed as a child but had not ventured into the equestrian world in my adult life. I bought a horse, showed him and opened up a Tack Shop called The Equine Connection in Portsmouth, RI. My husband and I built a house in Tiverton, RI four years ago and the Equine Connection has been in existence for almost eight years. John (husband) is still in the marine industry and is the Sales Manager for Goetz Custom Boats in Bristol, RI. We are about to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on September 10th.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2007. We decided to return to Baltimore for treatment and that is where I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Robert Donegan, Barbara Raksin, Dr. Schnapper and so many others who have helped me. We are still in Rhode Island with trips back to Baltimore to see doctors and family-thank god for Southwest Air. A one hour flight for less than a dinner for 2!

I would like to thank everybody involved with Steps to the Cure and my heartfelt appreciation to Barbara Raksin for being our angel.
